The Six Sticks Six Sons
by Charlene Gayle Mirhan

Six Sticks
There was once a rich old farmer. The farmer has six sons. They are strong men and they are always quarrelling. This worries the old man. He felt so sure that if his sons will not stop fighting there will be troubles in the future. Especially when he’s gone, there will be no one to guide them.

One day, the old man had an idea. He called all his sons and showed them a bundle of six sticks. He gave the bundle to each of them and said, “I’ll pay a hundred thousand pesos to anyone who can break this sticks. And so, each of them attempted. Everyone gave their all might but no one could break the sticks in the bundle.

So the father took the bundle. He untied it then broke each of the sticks, one by one and said, “Nothing is easy in life” “Ah!” Said the oldest son. It is easier to do it that way, breaking them one by one.”

“My sons, you must understand that like these sticks you can also be broken easily. If you are together, helping each other, no harm can come. But if you keep on quarreling and let yourselves away from others, things like these can happen. As if you are the sticks that were broken and fell on the ground.

At the Beach
by Allison Joy B. Lapidez

Let’s go at the beach,
Eat some fruity peach.
Fish for some mussels,
And go make sand castles.

Let’s go underwater
swimming,
Oh! It’s so exciting.
But before we swim,
Make our stomach firm.

Go sunbathing under the sun,
Until our skin turns brown.
This good day ends so well,
That’s why it’s so hard to say farewell.
